DVD Review: The Zoo Keepers Wife

In times of great trouble, there are a few people who have the courage to step outside of themselves and make a difference.

As a child, I watched so many movies about the Holocaust, that I started becoming immune to them. But this movie brings to light aspects of humanity that are seldom seen in war movies.

In this movie, a family's idyllic existence running the Warsaw Zoo in Poland is shattered by the Nazi invasion in 1939.

Animal lovers around the world would find this movie a truly special way of viewing one of history's greatest events. During bombings, the animals were also affected. The Zoo Keeper's Wife is a movie that shows how woman are affected by the horrors of war and how they can bring their own special blend of courage into situations of conflict and strife.

I also enjoyed that it shows the dynamics that war can affect a marriage. The main character and her husband risk so much to help, families to safety. Their compassion and courage are remarkable.  I really enjoyed this movie and am happy to have it as part of my collection.
