Did you know that the thoughts that you choose can take you to a destination in your life? Which one are you choosing to think?
In a two year study on salespeople, optimistic salespeople outperformed pessimistic salespeople by 19% in year one and by year two the optimistic people outperformed people by 57%.
There is so much evidence on how a positive mindset helps you to improve.
However, while reading the Book The 4-Hour Work Week, by Timothy Ferris, there is a quote about fear disguised as optimism.
"There is no difference between a pessimist who says, "Oh it is hopeless, so don't bother doing anything," and an optimist who says "Don't bother doing anything, it's going to turn out fine anyway." Either way, nothing happens. Yvon Chouinard - Founder of Pantagonia
If you don't know who that is, then you are not alone. I did not know either, so that is why I am going to add relevance to this quote. Yvon Chouniard is an American rock climber, environmentalist, and outdoor industry billionaire. Chouinard is most known for founding the clothing and gear company.
So how does this all tie in together?
Our thoughts if uncontrolled, can move along preset patterns unless we take action to control them.
We have to make deliberate choices about what we are thinking.
Deliberate thinking is not a fad. In fact, fads or fashions come and go. Only tried and tested methods stand the test of time. Which is why no matter which book store you go to, there will be something on mind power, mind reset or optimistic thinking.
What I liked about theYvon Chouniard early story is that he had a passion for rock climbing. To save money, and make adaptations for the way he was climbing, he decided to make his own climbing tools, teaching himself blacksmithing, and eventually started a business.
I love this because while average thinking would led him to the path of not being able to afford to rock climb, possibility thinking made him take control and learn skills that could help him to not only pursue his passion but also to start a business.
Choose your thoughts.
Choose to have an optimistic outlook.
Open the door to better possibilities.
And take action.
If you are struggling to take control of your thoughts, then I highly recommend the book.
